Coming soon, an all new version of my adventures can be found at www.footstepstotheworld.com.
This site was created on the fly last year in the weeks before I left, while I was busy running around obtaining visas, buying supplies, and closing down a 10-year job. My friend Sallie Goetsch (fileslinger.com) did a great job creating what I thought I needed but once I was on the road and posting at local internet cafes of varying bandwidth, many short-comings became apparent. But I wasn’t about to fly back home to do a fix. I’d live with it!
Now that I’m back, it’s time to revamp things, make this more than a snap shot of what I did but a dynamic ongoing resource to encourage you to do what I did.
First step is to learn how to create and maintain blogs myself. One excellent teacher is Bill Belew, who runs 20 blogs on subjects ranging from doing business in Asia to Cricket. I’ve attended many of his meetups, which are excellent but I like to start from the beginning or I’m lost. The solution, the all-day workshop he’s leading called “Expert Platform Building.” He taught us the 20 elements of an ideal blog post and to my delight many of my on the run posts meet most (but not all) these criteria.
For example my page on my Last Days in Southeast Asia was timely: it described the Bangkok floods as they appeared on the ground. My biggest weakness (besides organization) was the lack of inserted images. But now I know how to do that.
I also met another travel blogger at the workshop: Madlen Mirzaian-Saddik, who specializes in cruises, group travel, and corporate incentive travel.
Now to make the good better!
